Ana Radovcich

Ana Radovcich was born in 1969, Perth, Western Australia. Ana completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at Curtin University in 2000. She majored in painting and was awarded ‘Best Student’ in both Painting and Drawing by Ted Snell. Ana works with oils, mixed media and gouache.

“Painting, for me, is about bringing forth honesty; digging up my true nature, my true bliss. Enmeshed in this basic premise is ‘theme’. Theme is the tool for which I can push beyond boundaries, beyond the ‘known’. Theme is the tool that navigates me to my basic premise and to my centre.

I will find an image, a token of the representational world, be it a tall ship, a leopard’s spot or a woman’s leg and let it serve as an anchor in which to attempt to resolve all that encumbers the journey toward a complete canvas, a complete bliss.

My current work features a ship: A Ship of Discovery. I was lured to this image after reading the novel, Over the Edge of the World by Laurence Bergreen. Thus being about the first circumnavigation of the globe. What I have created are paintings not pertaining to this literal historic journey, but to ‘journey’ in the broader sense of life and potentiality: the stuff that is held between the book-ends of life and death. I want to impact and impart a sort of shimmering crescendo – a collusion of the forces of human nature, past and future: all at once.”

Ana lives and paints in Castlemaine, Victoria with her partner, Ceramicist, Dean Smith and their two year-old son Vito.
