Frances Egan

Frances Egan was born in Melbourne in 1969. Initially choosing a career in Nursing, Frances then turned her attention to her fundamental passion of creating art. Her interest in art has taken various forms such as writing, interior decorating, sewing, drawing, sculpting and painting. She studied at Moorabbin TAFE to obtain a diploma in Visual Arts in 2003, winning first prize for painting. Her work has been exhibited at Glen Eira City Council Gallery, and was shortlisted for the Exhibition “Fresh” and thus exhibited at Craft Victoria, Flinders Lane in 2004. Her work has also been exhibited at Williamstown, in the Smorgan Steele Contemporary Art Show, 2004, and Linden Gallery Postcard Show, St Kilda of the same year. She then commenced a Bachelor of Fine Art (painting) at Victorian College of the Arts in 2004. She was part of an exhibition “Baggage” directed by the artist Diana Cohen at VCA Gallery, Southbank, Victoria in 2004. Deferring her studies to have a baby girl, Esther, (now aged 9) and then another, Grace (aged 3) Frances continues to paint with her arty friends weekly.

When creating art, I am forever learning; the journey of discovery is infinite, and it is this that I find so invigorating. Sometimes I have a plan before I commence a piece of art, but mostly I experiment and allow the painting to evolve. The process of making the art is as important to me as the final result. I like to experiment; to extend the possibilities of concept and materials. For me, it is like composing a story. It’s progressive and the potential, endless…” Frances exhibits and sells her work at various galleries and shows in the Metropolitan and on the Mornington Peninsula.
