About Janis Runting

Janis grew up in Melbourne and always dabbled with paints and drawing. At age 11 she won a library art competition and years later studied Interior Design, which introduced her to colour combinations, linear forms and pattern.

Since 2006 she has successfully exhibited at shows around Melbourne. She travels regularly and always takes her sketchbook. Recently she returned from the area around Hill End in NSW where she discovered interesting terrains and vistas for her paintings.

Her semi-abstract contemporary paintings are either oil on board or linen. They use interesting colour combinations and have a sense of movement and texture.

Over the years she has studied with well-known artists including Michael Marks, Luke Sciberras, Ron Reynolds and Camille Przewodek in California. Her work is influenced by artists such as Fred Williams, Margaret Woodward, Jo Davenport and The Group of Seven. Her work hangs in many private collections.

Her next solo art exhibition will be at the Tacit Art Gallery, Abbotsford in late April 2017.
