About Jo-Ann Cittadini

Jo-Ann Cittadini ia an Australian artist. In one form or another art and design have always been her life. She graduated from the State College of Victoria with a degree in Art and Fashion. Then followed brief periods of teaching art in secondary schools, working with the Melbourne Theatre Company and the Australian Opera Company before settling in Fashion Design where she spent most of her professional career.

Frequent trips to Italy, France, Germany and the UK were replaced by explorations of Thailand when she moved there with her husband and young family in 1995.

A turning point was studying watercolour painting with Thai artist Charlee Sodprasert. She produced and marketed a range of graphics and decorator prints of local Thai-inspired designs and decided to make art and illustration her primary focus. Her illustrations have been commissioned for magazines in Bangkok and Australia. Since returning to Australia she has exhibited in group shows and exhibitions and her large pastel still-lifes and figurative works continue to gain recognition.

"Painting and designing have never felt like work to me. I love change, I love the challenge of following new ideas through to completion. There is never enough time to put it all onto canvas! The research, the creative process, and the final product are all an adventure. I love the journey, I love the surprises.

She is always striving towards innovation as she works with different ideas, formats and colours. The end results are bold, colourful images with a contemporary twist on traditional themes. Her spirited 'Beach Angels' and 'Boudoir Babes' with their whimsical and capricious attitudes, and the bold, playful 'Rooms with a View' series, reflect a new direction for her with their stylized and graphic imagery in acrylic on canvas..

Jo-Ann was awarded a Highly Commended at the Harmony Artworks Exhibition, Box Hill in March 2002. She is represented at 'First Settlement Gallery, Sorrento, 'Aspects Gallery', Blairgowie and 'Gallery One', Mornington.
