Joel Gailer is currently studying for a Bachelor of Fine Art in printmaking at Monash University, Victoria. He holds a Diploma of Visual Arts taken at Gippsland Institute of T.A.F.E. and completed at Cooloola Institue of T.A.F.E. in Queensland.

He has held several exhibitions a year since gaining his diploma. Most recently these included Artists Book Exhibition at the Monash Printmaking Studio in Caulfield (2000); Monash Prato, Italian Studies students work exhibition at the Monash Painting Studio in Caulfield (2001) and Emerging Artists group exhibition at Mira Fine Art Gallery in Flinders Lane, Melbourne (2002).

He has been awarded a Mira Emerging Artists prize.
