About Julia Dean

Julia Antica Dean  - mixed media abstract impressionist  - Melbourne.

Julia uses acrylic, ink, pastels, and collage, to create vibrant, abstract images that give the sensation of movement, dimension, transparency and interesting detail. Her images come almost impulsively, after letting colour and pattern move into something spontaneous. She loves to use intense colours, fuchsia/magenta tones, turquoises, sea greens, rich oranges and earthy naturals. Connecting with the sun, rain, water, ferns, leaves, the symbols that call to her are swirls, flowers, birds, people’s faces and mountain landscapes.

Julia has exhibited in group exhibition, and held her first (highly successful) solo exhibition ”Heart Splashes” in August 2016 at the Box Hill Community Art Centre.

Julia lives in a green, leafy suburb of Melbourne, Australia. She studied drawing and graphics at the Elsternwick School of Art, while working with fabric design and creating women's fashion ranges during my career as a fashion buyer for a national department store. Now, a psychotherapist, using counselling and hypnotherapy to help her clients to connect to their highest potential in life, Julia has held art therapy workshops, as well as teaching embroidery and textile art some years ago.

Julia only recently returned to doing art through a new inspired interest in mixed media, collage, abstract painting and art journaling. She has attended many workshops with overseas and local artists and her work is currently inspired by the Philadelphia school of art ( U.S.A), abstract impressionist artists, as well as many contemporary mixed media artists.

Move through your known into your unknown. You just might learn to fly…... “ Julia Dean
