I was born in Canberra and grew up in Yass NSW.
In 1995 I started painting for the first time while living in America. In 1996, I decided to study art formally, and moved to Adelaide where I was accepted into the North Adelaide School of Art.
After two years I transferred to the Canberra School of Art at the Australian National University, from where I graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor Degree in Visual Arts. I received four emerging artist’s awards for my encaustic paintings. In 2009 I completed a Masters Degree in Visual Arts at Monash University, Churchill Victoria.
My subject matter is concerned with conveying the beauty, fragility and the essence of nature. The paintings emulate natural elements that comprise layers of coloured wax, richly worked and heat stressed, to create surfaces of dynamic, refracted light that focus on the fragility of the environment.
My challenge as an artist has been to develop fresh and innovative techniques to express my feelings and ideas through the encaustic method of painting.
