Michael Leunig

Michael Leunig was born in Melbourne in 1945.

His work was first published in 'Lots Wife' 1965, when he was a student at Monash University .'Lots Wife' was the Monash University newspaper.

His work was associated with a range of journals and publications from this time. In 1969 he commenced working with the 'Age'.

From 1969 to 1994 he has worked as a cartoonist with Australian and international newspapers and publications.

Over the last 19 years, 14 books of poetry and drawings have been published.

He was a member of a group of artists invited to create a mural which is now located at the National Gallery of Australia.

His drawings and paintings have been exhibited at private and public galleries throughout Australia.

Works by Michael Leunig are in private and public collections both in Australia and overseas.

A comprehensive exhibition of his printmaking ?The Happy Prints? has toured through Regional Galleries in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania. Exhibited at the National Archive of Australia in Canberra, A.C.T. The exhibition has currently been touring for two years.

A major retrospective of his drawings and paintings was organised by the National Gallery of Victoria in 1992. The "Introspective" toured State Galleries of Australia until May 1994.
