Art, for Paula, is an emotional experience. Each piece is born on the canvas, without pre-planning, to ensure the emotion and the concept is pure and not influenced by external expectations.
With these pieces she hopes to achieve a sense of fragility, using the figure, not how we see it, but how we feel it. The fragility of human nature and the sometimes tiring upkeep of our psyche are a common theme through her work.
Paula is continuing to work with line and movement as the figure becomes more abstracted, endeavouring to tell less about the physical and more about the emotional.
Some major influences in achieving these goals have been; Joy Hester, Brett Whiteley, Francis Bacon, Egon Schiele and Howard Hodgkin to name just a few.
