About Sarah Thomas

Sarah Thomas

Sarah is an Australian painter living and working by the sea in beautiful Noosa Queensland. She works under the name of Editions Noosa Art and has been painting as a career since 2000.

Every time I stand before an empty canvas I have a simple quest – to create a thing of beauty, something fun, warm and happy to make the viewer smile … that is what art should be about. Spread the joy!”  Sarah

Melbourne born, Sarah settled in Noosa almost 30 years ago with her Queenslander husband and hasn't looked back. Raising children and working from her garage, her early paintings sold like hotcakes from the "Discovery Gallery" in famous Hastings St and this launched her into local, interstate and international exhibitions.

Sarah's large fun, flamboyant, figurative artworks on canvas depict people at leisure and are inspired by the human form, her coastal lifestyle and her years studying art, dance and playing sport. Feel good paintings and pleasing to the eye her figures are graceful and poised. The subjects look out and connect happily with the viewer or at times are whimsically facing away from us but sharing their view and story. Swimmers, lifeguards, dancers, nippers, musicians, family portraits are her specialty...

Her paintings now number almost 900 and are found in collections all over Australia and the world. She has participated in several solo and group exhibitions, been represented by galleries in Noosa and interstate (more recently Raw Art Gallery Noosa, Seaview Gallery Queenscliff and Manyung Gallery Sorrento), ran her own gallery for 2 years, exhibited at the Florence Biennale by invitation and been commissioned for large projects by schools, offices, hotels, restaurants and commercial projects. She lists Sandro Botticelli, Gustav Klimt and John Brack amongst her favourite artists and influences and says she is never at a loss for ideas for the next painting.

Nowadays she is very happy working in her beautiful modern Sunshine Beach studio mainly on private commissions where she is able to meet people (in person or via email), hear their story and then endeavour to create an artwork to suit their wishes. She is most often sought after for capturing their spirit in a family portrait which they will treasure forever. She likes to do the occasional exhibition supporting a local community.
