About Sherren Comensoli

Short Bio

Sherren Comensoli is a self-taught contemporary artist who was raised in north east Victoria & moved to Melbourne in 1991 to attend the Melbourne school of Design (RMIT). She pursued an artistic career in Retail Design & Visual Merchandising (some of which include doing the window displays at David Jones Bourke St, and then retail design for various private clients).

Sherren currently lives in Glen Iris with her family and paints daily in her stunning home studio. Studio visits are welcome (by appointment). Since having 2 children, Sherren’s artistic talents have manifested into her beautiful paintings. She has now been painting full time for over 10 years. Sherren’s motivation is driven for a passion to create beautiful living spaces. She is also a Design Consultant / Interior Stylist and uses many of her own paintings to pull together beautiful room settings for her clients.

Sherren’s art has recently been featured in The Block 2017 TV series. One of The Block Couples (Sticks and Wombat) in the 2017 series actually purchased 5 of Sherren’s paintings to be featured in their home. Sherren has not only featured her art on the popular TV show, but she is also found some notoriety as the ‘The Block Shop’ Design Consultant and has enjoyed helping many Block Fans transform their own homes. She is interiors obsessed, which helps her when she paints because she knows what will look good in people's homes.

Here is how Sherren describes her work

‘There is always abstraction in my paintings regardless of the subject. Before I start any painting I am considering the environment or room setting in which it is to be placed. Do I want this painting to be bold & dominate the space or does it need to be more subdued and restful? My painting style can vary from a whimsical tonal style which is depicted in my ‘Botanical Series’ of works, to then contrast my ‘Contemporary Abstract Series’ which are more colourful & textured to create a piece to suit a more contemporary setting.

‘My paintings mostly reflect the Australian landscape – but with a contemporary translation. Natural elements such as rocks, tree’s, the ocean and mountains are all my preferred subjects. I like to add multiple layers and keep building the painting up slowly until I have something that is substantial & complex. My paintings appeal to Interior Designers and Stylists and I’m often commissioned by designers to paint for their clients.

I will always be experimental & brave with my painting style. I will always try something new, to keep my work versatile, and to set new trends.’
