Syd Tunn completed a Diploma of Art at Monash University (then Caulfield Institute) in 1965. He has been a full-time artist for the last 21 years. He works from a twenty square studio in The Bend of Islands, Kangaroo Ground.
Syd often anthropomorphises the animals and uses humour to portray the essence of the subjects - whether gutsy or timid, quirky or straight. Using a wide variety of media, the works often put a grin on your face and exude a feeling of optimism and innocence. Figures and still life also feature in Syd's paintings and printmaking.
Syd has held twenty-five major exhibitions and been involved in thirty-two feature exhibitions. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Flinders Art Award and the ERA Award three times. He has been selected for award invitations including Mornington Gallery (Nature Works on Paper) and Diamond Valley Art Awards.
He was Runner Up in The Archibald, Victorian Salon des Refusés, 2002.
Syd Tunn's works are held in private and corporate collections including the Regent Hotel, Melbourne, Sofitel Hotel, Melbourne, Municipal Melbourne, C K Clothing, Melbourne Exhibition & Convention Centre and Eltham College.
