Coming from unlikely beginnings as an engineer, Melbourne handbag and accessories designer Carla Limosani of Emotional Baggage is creating custom made and ready-made bags which are cut by hand and sewn individually.

I couldn't wait to get into my sewing room after working my day job to see what I could come up with. I loved the creative release, coming across gorgeous fabrics, developing a bag or purse pattern to bring out the best in them and putting my creations out there for people to see, Carla said.

When asked what inspired her thoughtful business name, Carla mused, While I didn't feel particularly laden with Emotional Baggage at the time, in many ways it did represent the challenges I was facing in terms of letting go of my insecurities regarding a change in career paths. Carla was determined to put a positive spin on terminology that had long conjured up negative thoughts and feelings, and to her it represents being proud of who you are and where you are in your life. Emotional Baggage became Carla's creative therapy session!

Carla is passionate about small business, and thoroughly enjoys showing her wares at a couple of Melbourne Markets. It has been a fantastic way to meet like-minded people and share ideas about small business. She has recently developed a sophisticated online boutique, where consumers can express their own creativity by custom designing their very own Australian made handbag or purse.
