About us

The Canterbury Art Exhibition will hold its 40th exhibition on the 5th and 6th of May this year, from its inception in 1973 it has gained a reputation for its contemporary outlook and high artistic standards. This exciting annual event is held in the historic buildings of Canterbury Primary School in Molesworth Street, Canterbury.

This year the Exhibition will showcase over 650 individual artworks from 130 talented Australian artists. A highlight of the exhibition will be the work of Feature Artists, Jenny Riddle and Sally Courtney.

Jenny Riddle - Silent Rain

Jenny Riddle studied painting under the late Howard Arkley and although their painting styles are very different, Howard taught Jenny to be unconventional in application, using broader brush strokes and a more uninhibited approach to painting.

Living at Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula has influenced Jenny’s work with most of her inspiration acquired by the rural landscape and surrounding coastlines. Jenny will showcase a series of Conifer Landscape paintings for this year’s exhibition.

Jenny is a regular exhibitor at Manyung Gallery in Mount Eliza and has works held in national and international collections.

Sally Courtney has a Diploma in Graphic Design coupled with a background in illustration, photography and sculpture. After spending a year in Graphic Design, Sally ventured into her own giftware business selling locally and internationally. The last eight years Sally has focused on her true passion of painting and sculpture, her style is eclectic with a quirky and cheerful perspective.

Sally Courtney When Sally is not working on a commission piece of artwork or her Exhibition, which is planned for late 2012, she enjoys teaching her students the art of framing at DYO Picture Framing in Malvern Rd, Glen Iris.

Sally’s paintings this year will feature a Circus stage theme along with 3D and 2D collages, made from vintage rulers Sally sourced from various overseas locations.

In addition we are delighted to have Children’s book Illustrator and Cartoonist Mitch Vane doing book signings of “No Thanks Hanks” her latest collaboration with Author and Age columnist Danny Katz. Book Signing will be on Saturday 5th May 11am to 12.30pm.
