Brendon MoggBrendon Mogg (Born 1975) is a successful Sydney painter with numerous solo exhibitions whose paintings are held in private and corporate collections in Spain, Australia and England. Mogg’s highly textural paintings have a sensuous, tactile quality which evocatively capture the vibrancy and development of Sydney in high-key slightly blended palettes. He works in a range of styles to create large format, abstract paintings in oil on canvas. Using a technique perfected over the last 20 years, Mogg builds up thick layers of oil paint. His latest series are light and airy in soft tones ideal for a contemporary, white interior. Artist Statement As I questioned the style that I desired to produce, many thoughts and creative methods were explored to create such a proud collection of my recent work. I wanted to continue to study the landscape and what it visually conveyed to me over many months of inspiring daily journeys. For me this is prominent amongst the rewarding aspects of this project. The need to illustrate the various time changes throughout the day and to embrace vital themes, compositions such as a blank blue sky, with its cluttered mixture of street signs, billboards and the everyday movement in the foreground, to the streetscape and empty parklands, to name just a few. The sense of suburban life becomes increasingly stimulating. The exhibited works have been produced spontaneously with minimum preliminary preparation. Small re-torn and brightly coloured collage-like drawings were used as reference guides to bring together my emotions and the landscape. In the planning and initial production of these works, I wanted light, bright and random work - high-key slightly blended palettes of flesh-like pinks, soft greens, ochres and pale-blue tones were my choices as these were the highlighted colours of the landscape and my emotions during this creative experience. The works were produced using unclean palettes and palette knives and many varied sized pieces of cardboard as brushes that were reused over again to blend the different coloured media. While working on each piece I felt the need to be close to each work and refused to allow any painting to remain semi blank for long. Accuracy wasn't a priority at this time. In fact, reworking entire wet paintings at a time and transferring fresh surfaces to another work proved to be appropriate and artistically satisfying. During this period I often began working early in the morning, sometimes as early as sunrise, to feel the day's beginning silence and to experience the changing day ahead.... the simple things were my inspiration. As I painted the works, side by side for most of their production, my thoughts of titles, expressions and their outlook became more descriptive of certain behaviours of mine as they related to the landscape. - Brendon Mogg Qualifications 1993-94 Associate Diploma in Fine Arts Selected Exhibitions (Upcoming) 2010 Recent Colour works (Solo) David-Rex Livingston Art Dealer, Sydney 2010 Canterbury Art Show, Victoria 2010 Recent works (Solo) Washhouse Gallery, Sydney 2010 Saint Ignatius Collage Art Show, Sydney 2010 Mount Eyre Vineyard Art Prize, David-Rex Livingston Art Dealer, Sydney 2010 Metro Art Prize (Pending judging), Victoria 2010 Fletcher Jones Art Prize (Pending judging), Victoria 2010 Lethbridge 10,000, Brisbane 2010 Landscape in colour (Solo) Art Treasury, Sydney 2010 Balmain Art & Craft Show, Sydney ~ 2009 Canterbury Art Show (Featured Artist), Victoria 2009 Featured works for the Launch of Art Treasury Gallery, Sydney 2009 Balmain Art & Craft Show, Sydney 2009 Finalist AGENDO Art Prize, Victoria 2009 Finalist Waverley Art Prize, Sydney 2009 Finalist Mosman Art Prize, Sydney 2009 Finalist Mount Eyre Vineyard Art Prize.
