About Leigh Knight
I grew up in rural Victoria and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT Melbourne. Soon after completion of my degree I left Australia to continue my studies in Europe where I lived and worked for many years. My love of travel and fascination for architecture and landscape, imbues my work. Taking inspiration from the works of Paul Klee my paintings use colour and form to evoke memories of place and attempts to capture the spirit of regions I have visited.
My paintings are not meant to be a realistic depiction of any one specific location, but rather a reminder of places I have travelled to and enjoyed. I interpret landscapes in a very personal way and I am especially interested in how buildings fit into each unique setting. Realism as such is not the focus of my paintings, they are more about reminiscence. I often use colour & distorted shape to recapture these special moments, like snapshots deliberately playing with scale and perspective. The viewer is encouraged to explore, indulge and recollect. I taught art for a number of years and have exhibited both in Australia and Europe.
I continue to explore the theme of home and love nothing more than finding new ways to show this through colour, style and subject.
