My work explores sculptural and geometric themes, using black and white to create strong shapes and patterns.
Each work is individually hand built using slabs of clay. These are assembled, beaten and modelled into the final shape. When the clay is leather hard, black slip decoration is applied over a paper mask to produce the geometric design. The work is then bisqued, and fired to stoneware, with a clear glaze.
I have been a professional modeller in automotive design for 25 years. I enjoy modelling with clay, creating something three dimensional. I find geometry and pattern intriguing and love the contrast of black and white. I also enjoy the achievement and discipline of producing something that is functional as well as decorative.
