Valerie Wheeler

Valerie is a painter working mainly in the watercolour medium but occasionally dabbling in printmaking and oil. Her paintings are luscious studies of nature in all it's glory and a celebration of the diversity surrounding us on a daily basis.

Textiles from medieval times to the present are a continual influence. Valerie's first major exhibition was heavily influenced by the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries from the Cluny Museum in Paris and tapestries from both the Medieval and Renaissance periods continue to inspire. At present she is incorporating ideas from French Toile de Jouy fabrics, orginating in the 18th Century, in some botanical style works in progress. Ceramics and silverware are also triggers of influence and form the basis of many still life studies often backed with a landscape.

Currently, Valerie has work exhibited in Ashby House, Queenscliff and is completing private commissions.
