About Ashley Ronnfeldt

Ashley is a specialist stone sculpture artist who works from his Glen Iris studio. Contemporary pieces attributed to this artist are characterised in having an intense attention to detail and are created only from rare and semi-precious stones, mined selectively from the West Australian desert and South Africa. Apart from ensuring a fine finish in the detail aspects of any piece, Ashley also seeks to achieve overall balance and an a sense of proportion in his work.

The texture and individual characteristics of the primary raw stone dictates the final result in each Rönnfeldt sculpture. Ashley is known to spend more than a week analysing the primary stone for its features before commencing work.

"Eventually the primary stone elicits an impact upon my mind and I have a sudden compulsion to release the vision translated to me. It is easier to think in a three dimensional format when you have this initial message from the stone."

"With this vision in mind I have difficulty stopping my work on a piece once it is begun and hours can pass in minutes, despite being amid all that dust and rubble."

Concerning the supporting plinth, this item is considered critical to the exhibit and each are designed for the individual sculpture as necessary. According to this view, plinths are inclusive in the sale of each sculpture.

An inaugural exhibition of Rönnfeldt sculptures is expected in October 2003.
