About Charles Sluga

Charles Sluga is a highly skilled and versatile contemporary watercolourist, with an international reputation.

His unique vision, consummate skill and artistic integrity results in a range of compositions, from the subtle and evocative, to the powerful and bold - pushing the boundaries of traditional subject matter. Charles’ variety of paintings reflects many sources of inspiration, from the local, to destinations worldwide, including the Dalmatian Coast, where he conducts an annual tour.

Charles has traveled to the USA to study the works of John Singer Sargent and Andrew Wyeth, both of whom have influenced Charles’ work. Sargent’s looseness of brushstroke, confidence of paint handling and pushing the boundaries of watercolour technique, and Wyeth’s honesty and unique subject matter have made a huge impact on Charles’ philosophical and technical approach to his work.

He is an enthusiastic, popular and passionate teacher of watercolours (15 years). Charles regularly conducts workshops in Australia, and has led five painting tours to Europe (Italy and Croatia), and is invited to be Guest Artist at the renowned workshop venue Castle of Park, Scotland (September 2007).

He is a regular contributor to the Australian Artist Magazine and is featured in the March 2007 edition.

A Californian based online gallery chose Charles as one of a select group of 50 Artists worldwide to have limited edition Giclee prints produced of his work. His prints are in the top ten of the most popular on the site and a percentage of the sale proceeds are donated to charity.

His next two exhibitions will be held at Manyung Gallery in Mt Eliza, Melbourne (August 2007) and Aquarelle Gallery, Sydney (2007).
