About Donald Ramsay

Donald Ramsay's paintings celebrate our unique Australian natural environment - the bush, the outback, the ocean. He is proud to be a part of the tradition of landscape painting in Australia established by artists such as Fred Williams, Arthur Boyd and Lloyd Rees.

Donald was born and grew up in Melbourne and became seriously interested in painting while still at school. After completing a Forest Science (Hons.) Degree at Melbourne University, he travelled overseas to further his artistic experience. He spent the next few years as a secondary teacher before committing to full-time painting.

His first solo exhibition was in 1979. He has won a variety of awards, including the Toorak Contemporary Art Prize in 2000, and is represented in a number of significant corporate collections, including eighteen works purchased by Elders IXL.

Several exhibitions have been based around his expeditions to the Kimberley region of North Western Australia. On his four trips to Europe, Donald has visited and painted with expatriate Australian artist Fred Jessup in Southern France.

Donald's next exhibition will be a major survey of his work at Castlemaine Regional Art Gallery in October 2008.
