About Elizabeth Barnett

Elizabeth is a Melbourne based printmaker and textile artist, who works extensively with the themes of water, natural phenomena and built forms. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Victorian college of the Arts followed by honours at RMIT Melbourne, Elizabeth completed her tertiary studies with a Masters of Illustration in London in 2009. Elizabeth’s works have been exhibited in prominent Sydney, Melbourne, London and Wales galleries, and takes pride of place in numerous private collections worldwide. Elizabeth’s textural miniatures are like creations of secret worlds; translating the everyday into the whimsical. Through her stitched works, Elizabeth creates little pockets of details that draw from both real and imaginary journeys. Her works hark back to the storybooks and images from her childhood, and explore relationships between people and their changing environments. Elizabeth draws inspiration from everyday objects, beloved pets, the circus, and her varied travels. Her mothers prolific quilt making has also been a particularly poignant point of reference for Elizabeth since childhood. Her love of vintage textiles, handkerchiefs, old lace and ribbon have formed the basis for her works.
