About Gary Healey
Gary Healey has been potting part time since 1987. His teachers have included Jane Sawyer and, more recently, Victor Greenaway. Gary sells his work at the Hawthorn Craft Market, and a selection of his altered porcelain bowls was exhibited at the Northcote Pottery Gallery shop in March and April 2002.
Gary's aim is to develop strong forms enhanced by subtle glazes and surface treatments. His work uses translucent Limoges porcelain. Gary's current passion is altering thrown porcelain bowls which are then fired to 1300 degrees celcius with a celedon glaze. This is pushing the clay and the glaze to their absolute limit. The subtle distortion in the bowls forces the eye to go searching for whether they are really round. Gary is also exploring depth in glazes by applying high-fired celedons and other clear glazes over coloured slip.
