About Helen Edwards

Helen Edwards began painting professionally in 1992 following a long teaching career. She has studied with Walter Magilton and Edward Berry and although she enjoys painting in oils and watercolor she is best known for her works in pastel.

"For me painting is a process which allows me to re-live and share my most meaningful experiences and impressions. The myriad effects of light are my greatest inspiration and with soft pastel I find I am best able to re-create these effects".

Helen exhibits at selected Galleries and Art Shows and has gained over 75 awards and commendations for her work. In 2000 she received the inaugural 'Fellowship Of AGRA' award for continuing excellence. With 9 solo exhibitions to her credit she is regularly invited to appear as Feature Artist at art shows and has participated in such prestigious group exhibitions as at Warrnambool Regional Gallery (1995), Victorian 'Artist Of The Year'(1997), 'Australian In New York' (New York 1998), AGRA 'Aspects Of Excellence' (2001) and was a finalist in the A.M.E. Bale Travelling Scholarship Exhibition in 2001. Her paintings are widely held in private and corporate collections both here and overseas some of which can be viewed on the internet at www.helenedwards.com

As Ex-Vice President and current Exhibitions Co-Ordinator of The Australian Guild Of Realist Artists Helen satisfies her need for involvement with other artists. She is also an exhibiting member of The Victorian Artists' Society, past committee member of The Pastel Society of Victoria, member of The National Association Of Visual Artists and The Womens'Art Register. Her article 'Markmaking With Pastels' appeared in the April 1998 edition of 'Australian Artist' and images of Helen's paintings appear on two series of greeting cards by 'Art Publishing' Australia.
