About Jill Bygott

Jill's interest in pottery began in 1973 when she attended a hobby class. Over the years she learned through workshops and a great deal of trial and error. In 1990 Jill completed a two year Diploma Course at O.E.C.T.

Jill has always found the making of forms totally absorbing, whether it is on the wheel or the more gentle process of hand building.

When making her large pots she combines both hand building and the wheel, using the coil and throw technique. Jill uses stoneware clay which fires up to 1300 degrees celcius. This makes them vitreous and able to withstand the elements.

Being a practical person most of Jill's pots end up as functional pieces. Currently she is working with a range of domestic ware and at the same time enjoying larger hand built garden and sculptural pots. The latter work is influenced by her natural surroundings i.e. the bush and the beach.

Jill is at present one of the Stonehouse Potters and her work is always on display there. Her work is also available at two galleries on the Mornington Peninsula.
