About Kathryn Hope
Kathryn lives and works in Somers and has been involved in creating and teaching art her whole life. She qualified with a Bachelor of Fine Art - Painting at RMIT and has a Diploma of Education from Melbourne. She has recently moved back to Victoria from Queensland where she was involved in the art world for 28 years.
KathrynÕs subject matter involves still-life, landscapes, portraits and modern abstracts. Her art encompasses many mediums - oil, acrylic, pastel, charcoal and mixed media with a current emphasis on bold, abstract and colourful pieces. The use of antiqued gold leaf in her more recent work is both unique and eye-catching.
Kathryn has recently explored the concept of palimpest, where images an d calligraphic marks are layered on a surface then partially scraped back to produce an artwork with great depth and feeling. Her use of symbols and motifs, combined with rich colour and texture explores the idea that there is more to life than what is apparent at first glance.
Awards for her artwork include 1st prizes for contemporary, mixed media and pastel works and she has exhibited most notably at the Queensland National Gallery, Noosa Regional Gallery as well as many other venues. Her artworks have been purchased by both overseas and local collectors.
A visit to Kathryn's studio will ensure a warm welcome and an opportunity to view her work in a vibrant and relaxed setting.
