Laurie Collins

Laurie Collins is a 6 foot 4 inch large bearded man. He taught at secondary schools for 30 years concurrently with making a variety of creative art and craft work. He retired from teaching to concentrate on his art which has increasingly become metal sculptures. He has a sculpture garden of his work at Jindivick and it is open all the year round ( and free) for people to admire or laugh at his work . Laurie uses lots of recycled material in his sculptures and they always attract interest or comment. “I like to react to aspects of my life and I am continually inspired by images and ideas that come my way. Many of my pieces have small figures featuring in some way and this often emphasises aspects of humanity and gives a point of contact for many people”. Laurie has now been involved in a number of shows in Australia and overseas and the first developed from the Wild Dogs project where a group of West Gippsland artists were gathered by Kerrie Warren to produce a show entitled “Gippsland “for the eventual showing in our sister City ( with Warragul) of Jiu Jiang in China. Laurie has since taken an exhibition of his work and other Gippsland artists to a small Gallery in the heart of British Columbia, Canada and his most recent venture was to Thailand to produce work at a workshop at a Bangkok University.
