About Luke Rogers

Melbourne artist Luke Rogers works foremost in abstract steel sculpture and painting. His works have been commissioned for public art projects, private collections and for commercial production with projects such as the Mushroom Music sculpture award. Luke has been part of many sculpture prizes throughout Victoria, including the Montalto sculpture award and the Yering station sculpture prize. Over the past five years Luke has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions. In his most recent solo exhibition at gallery 1000 pound bend in January 2010, a selection of abstract sculpture and painting created over the past two years was shown. An ongoing exploration with his welded steel sculpture exploits the use of tensioned arcs, loops and clustered scraps of steel to create harmonious forms of industrial complexity. His abstract paintings are inspired by the landscape, a fascination with habitat and its relationships with the darker sides of life. He is currently working on a large body of works for a solo exhibition at Pigment Gallery Melbourne in June 2010.
