About Peta Morris

Peta Morris was born in Sydney Australia in 1972. She lives and works on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Since attending the National Art School in Darlinghurst in the early 90’s, majoring in painting, Peta has exhibited extensively in both group and solo exhibitions in Sydney, The Blue Mountains and throughout Australia. Although Peta’s work has predominately been in painting she now works in an assemblage medium. The transition to a different medium was greatly inspired by becoming a mother for the first time in 2008. These new assemblage works invite the viewer into worlds where humour adventure and beauty combine creating both playful and thought provoking works.

Peta’s inspiration comes from the world around her and her immediate environment, where childhood melds with discoveries of travel across Australia and abroad. She has also lived and worked creatively in the more remote locations of the red center of Alice Springs, Arnhem Land and the Blue Mountains West of Sydney. Peta also had a very successful singing career spanning a decade in early 2000 which saw her touring the country and receiving gold and platinum record accolades from her musical peers. Although Peta has retired from her music career her artistic pursuits continue to grow.

Peta's work is created using a mixture of vintage books and found objects and collectables that she finds on her travels. The work is predominately made from discarded materials that Peta brings to life inside vintage drawers, boxes some of which she also handcrafts herself.

Peta is available to create unique one of a kind commission pieces, due to the nature of the work no two works can be the same. These commissioned pieces can also include personal mementos or objects creating a unique and personal artwork.

Peta will be having a solo show this June 2011 through Art2muse in Double Bay New South Wales.
