About Pip Davey
Having worked in the fashion industry as a designer for fifteen years I took the opportunity to commence a career in the arts. Combining motherhood with study, I completed a Diploma in Fine Arts in 2002. I now paint most days and have successfully exhibited each year, which in turn has led to much commission based work and interesting residency opportunities.
My work draws on my fashion background as I apply similar thought processes and aesthetic values. I have a natural affinity for colour, pattern and texture, often incorporating a process of delicate layering and different mediums. These elements form the basis of my creative energy.
Exploration of materials is also paramount with gold leaf, pearlescent pigments, mica and beeswax often incorporated in my work. Of late I have been exploring the relationship between realistic imagery and abstract patterning, moving fluidly between the two.
Recent inspirations include architectural form, plant structure and geometry in particular the circle, as it provides harmony when experimenting with texturing and layering.
