About Reynold Chisholm

Born in Melbourne, to Ian Chisholm, teacher, artist & musician, and Fay Chisholm, teacher & musician, Reynold lived overseas from 2-5 years of age. He studied for a Bachelor of Arts in Photography, R.M.I.T., has received many awards for his photographic images & is an Associate Member of the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography). With almost 18 years experience in Melbourne and Sydney as a professional photographer, he is currently working as a freelance photographer in fashion, portraits and weddings. Reynold & wife Nerida love to travel & he is loving fatherhood with their 2 ½ year old son, Joshua.

His major influences are from the paintings of Rene Magritte & Salvador Dali, as well as the photographers Man Ray, Irving Penn & Helmut Newton. Reynold is most inspired by his father, artist Ian Chisholm, to exhibit his photographs & have them displayed & enjoyed by art collectors.

Reynold Chisholm's work explores the endless creative freedom of a surreal world & the power of our dreams. Using the medium of photography, he has created unique photographic illustrations symbolizing the infinite imagination our minds are capable of while dreaming. As we recall our most captivating experiences & foremost thoughts, the subconscious mind can conjure some strange images & illusions. Here Reynold has used his photographs taken on a recent trip to the French Riviera and the UK. The initial photographs were taken in a relaxed state of timelessness on a most enjoyable holiday, as a pure response to his experiences. While his original photographs beautifully capture the history & grandeur of the Cote d'Azur & charm of the UK in summer, from spectacular sea views to the twisting & winding laneways, stone walls & the abstract patterns of terracotta roofs within dramatically perched medieval fortress villages to the ancient English castles & villages set in lush green countryside, he has recorded his observations in a different way & presented the photography in a new form, even at times making an underlying social comment. A subtle deception in the subject matter is evident through his use of depth of field, elusive focal points & unusual perspective. These images are a wonderful surreal recollection of real & vivid memories that will never be forgotten while creating illusions, sometimes humorous, through the merging of thoughts & visions that we may typically encounter in the timeless state of a dream.

History is continually evolving from our inspired appreciation of the past to the innovation of new events, ideas, fashions & technologies. In this way, Reynold has developed a style, with respect to the art movement of Surrealism, using the exciting new technology of digital photography to handcraft his finished prints in his computerized digital darkroom.
