About Roland Harvey

Roland Harvey was born in Melbourne and has always loved drawing. He trained as an architect but is best-known for his distinctive books, posters calendars and Australian Christmas cards.

Roland enjoys watching people at work and at play, mentally sketching them while they go about their business. He has always loved the outdoors and some of the scenes from At the Beach and In the Bush are from real life - Roland really did make kelp sandals (like the ones in At the Beach) for his son, James!

An exhibition of his Lighthouse Series watercolours was held at the Westpac Gallery (Victorian Arts Centre).

Roland Harvey designed the Bicentennial USA joint issue stamps and First Day Covers, the Australia-NZ joint issue stamps and First Day Covers, a "Leisure Series" and the "Wild Babies" series stamps.

He has been shortlisted in the Children's Book Council Awards, received 'Honour Book', 'Noteable Book', the Clifton Pugh Award, the NSW Premier's Award, the Environment Book of the Year Award, and other international awards.

He has designed for the National Museum of Australia, Canberra, and the Royal Australian Mint.
