About Susan Gamble

Susan Gamble is avisual and performing artist whose practice encompasses and combines severalcreative arenas as fine artist, musician, composer and experimental filmmaker.

Further studies in classical voice and language have also beenundertaken in Italy after winning the NinoSanciolo Prize.

Susan is most contentwhen ensconced in a creative project – be it painting + drawing, sitting at thepiano letting her fingers ‘go for a wander’ or climbing a mountain weighed downonly by a camera around her neck. She loves the individual qualities of eachart form but by equal measure enjoys exploring the symbiotic relationshipbetween art forms and the various ways in which they can be combined +configured to create a richer more dynamic whole. Her art explores thedichotomy and slippage between the states of solidity + fluidity, rhythm +irregularity, unity + separation, presence + absence, interior + exterior.Somewhat sculptural in nature, her paintings are created in an open wrestlebetween physical form + abstraction through a flurry of paint, pastel andpencil applied to canvas whilst working on the floor.

Susan regularly exhibits her artworks and has won a variety of prizes, her films have received Victorian Arts Funding, screened in film festivals and ontelevision and her AV works projection mapped onto buildings whilst performinglive in music and media festivals along the East Coast of Australia. Last year,Susan performed her live-soundtrack to a sell-out crowd in the MelbourneRecital Centre as part AV ensemble TheSpheres in collaboration with the National Film and Sound Archive for there-dux of the first Russian silent sci-fi film ‘Aelita. This encore performance came after the project was firstrealised in ACMI Cinemas as part of the 2017Melbourne International Film Festival.
