About Wendy Jagger

Surrounded by the beautiful and sometimes austere alpine environment of Victoria’s North East, my studio looks directly to Mt Buller. My work is strongly influenced by seasonal landscapes and native Australian flora. Photographs and drawings taken from the field are developed in the studio in a range of painting media and translucent porcelain. I revel in painting ‘en plein air’, amidst the landscape and trying to capture the effect it has on me. My preferred media when painting en plein air are gouache and oils. In the painting workshops that I run, I encourage my students to experiment with the paint and to learn to look ‘into’ the landscape, to pick out the myriad colours and shapes. I love to paint Australian native flowers and the still life paintings I have in Canterbury Primary Art Show are mostly of flowers I have picked in my rural garden.

My paintings and ceramics are held in several collections, both private and public around Australia and internationally. My porcelain vessels have also been given as ministerial and corporate gifts on numerous occasions. I am currently working towards a solo exhibition, based on paintings can ceramics created during my Artist Residency in the Blue Mountains last year, for which I received an Australian Government Regional Arts Fund grant. I have been a finalist in numerous national contemporary art prizes around.
