About Yaping Jiang
After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Sichuan Institute of Fine Art in China, Yaping taught art at the South Western China Teacher’s University before coming to Australia. She completed a post-graduate Diploma in Art Education at RMIT in 1995, and has taught Chinese Calligraphy & Painting at University of Melbourne for many years.
Working in acrylics, Yaping has discovered a new way to express her feeling for the Australian landscape. Her work attempts to build a bridge between the objective and the subjective. She has a unique interpretation of the space which envelopes everyday objects. Resemblance against dissimilarity, reality versus abstract, all contribute to an exploration of shapes, lines and colours. Her life experiences have produced an interesting amalgamation of oriental and occidental styles. Among her achievements:
2000 – 1st Prize for Best Acrylic, St. Kevin’s Annual Art Show, Melbourne.
2003 – 1st Prize for Best Other Medium painting, Mount View Annual
She has also participated in several exhibitions including: 2005 – Rhythms of Time Solo Exhibition at Five Ways Gallery VIC. 2004 – International Women Artists Exhibition at Manningham Gallery.VIC 2003/2005 – Spirit of the Outback Exhibition at Regional Gallery Winton, Queensland
