Michelle Giacobello

"I am a story-teller. I weave glimpses, a visual dance, with the ending left up to the viewer. I hope to transport the viewer in a meditation of sorts that will engage, refresh and perhaps reveal insight. Relationships, role playing, contemplation and whimsy are themes explored and of endless fascination to me, and I often tell a story from the knees down or using shadows and light.

Life is a grand adventure full of impossibly precious moments. I try to capture those pivotal moments where flashes of clarity bring new possibilities.

The four works at this exhibition are a small series inspired by ‘Alice in Wonderland’ This story has always held great fascination for me, and it was a thrill to tackle some of the more evocative images from the book.”

Michelle's work is represented in both private and public collections in Australia and USA. She is particularly drawn to the human figure, and the human condition, seeking to draw a response from the viewer by capturing subtle gestures, private moments and evocative glances.

In creating art, Michelle is mindful that an original work brings its own personality to the environment. She feels that a work should breathe and occupy a space without overpowering it - revealing itself to the viewer gently but surely. Her works are often layered with unusual colours in ways that are both playful yet investigative - allowing her pieces to add a welcome and stimulating dimension to any space.

Michelle is inspired by artists Arthur Boyd, Charles Blackman, Sidney Nolan, Edvard Munch, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and by the delicious antics of children.

Michelle is currently represented by Louey & Lane Gallery (Glenhuntly Rd)

And Gallery 775 (Shoreham Rd, Red Hill) where she has a large solo show on from 25 April – 17 May 2009
